The Department of Agriculture and Water Resources (DAWR) has finalized the seasonal measure for the 2020-21 high risk season in Australia and New Zealand. Effective September 1, 2020 it is risk season of the Brown Marmorated Stink Bug (BMSB). The BMSB is considered a hitchhiker pest that can spread via oceangoing vessels. They seek shelter from cold weather during winter season and find their way into equipment, vehicles, machinery and other types of cargo.
For the 2020–21 BMSB risk season, measures will apply to:
- certain goods (see page 2) manufactured in, or shipped from target risk countries, and/or
- vessels that berth at, load or tranship from target risk countries,
The measures apply to goods shipped from September 1, 2020 that arrive in Australia or New Zealand by May 31, 2021 (both days inclusive).
