The Department of Agriculture and Water Resources (DAWR) has finalized the seasonal measure for the 2021-22 high risk season in Australia and New Zealand. Effective September 1, 2021 it is risk season of the Brown Marmorated Stink Bug (BMSB). The BMSB is considered a hitchhiker pest that can spread via oceangoing vessels. They seek shelter from cold weather during winter season and find their way into equipment, vehicles, machinery and other types of cargo.
For the 2021–22 BMSB risk season, measures will apply to targeted goods manufactured in or shipped from target risk countries, and to vessels that berth, load, or tranship from target risk countries.
The measures apply to goods shipped from September 1, 2021 that arrive in Australia or New Zealand by April 30, 2022 (both days inclusive).
